Understanding Versions #
A version is a specific release of your digital product. DMSI DDLS manages versions as WordPress Custom Post Types (CPT), making it easy to upload files and track releases. Versions work for any digital product – software, ebooks, courses, templates, graphics, etc.
What is a Version? #
Each version has:
- Version Number: Following semantic versioning or your preferred format (1.0.0, 1.1.0, 2.0.0, v2-updated, etc.)
- Product: Which product this version belongs to
- Release Date: When published
- Changelog: What’s new in this version
- Files: Downloadable files (may be platform-specific for software)
- Release Type: Stable or Beta (is_beta flag)
- Visibility: Published or Draft (WordPress post status)
Software Example #
Product: WordPress SEO Plugin
Versions:
- v1.0.0 – Initial release
- v1.1.0 – Added sitemap feature
- v1.2.0 – Fixed performance bug
- v2.0.0 – Major UI redesign
Each version has one ZIP file containing the plugin code. Customers with active licenses can download any version. New customers automatically get the latest version.
