Transferring License Ownership #
Sometimes licenses need to be transferred from one customer to another.
Common Scenarios #
- Customer sold their website
- Company changed ownership
- Customer changed email addresses
- Agency transferred project to client
- Reseller distributed license to end customer
CRITICAL: Verify Ownership First #
Never transfer without explicit written confirmation from current owner.
Verification Steps #
Get:
- Email from customer’s registered address
- Order number reference
- Specific authorization: “I authorize transfer of license DMSI-XXXX to newemail@example.com”
How to Transfer #
What Happens #
New Owner:
- Receives email with license key
- Can access license in customer portal
- Can manage activations
- Can download files
Old Owner:
- Can no longer access license in portal
- Loses all license control
- Cannot reactivate or manage
Activations:
- Remain active (don’t auto-deactivate)
- Continue working normally
- New owner can manage them
Security Notes #
Always verify ownership!
Transferring without verification exposes you to fraud:
- Attacker claims to be customer
- Requests transfer to their email
- Real customer loses access
- You face support nightmare
Protection:
- Require confirmation from registered email
- Ask for order number
- Verify recent communication
- Document everything
