License Settings Explained #

The License Settings section of the Licensing tab controls how licenses behave for this product.

License Type #

Dropdown: Select a License Type

License Types are admin-defined templates that set default values for activation limit and duration. When you select a License Type, its defaults are applied — but you can override them with the fields below.

If no License Type is selected, you must set activation limit and duration manually.

License Type Info Box #

When a License Type is selected, an information box appears showing the type’s default settings: activation limit, duration, and whether it is a lifetime type. This helps you see what defaults are in effect before applying overrides.

Activation Limit #

Number field: Maximum simultaneous site activations

Set to 0 for unlimited activations. If a License Type is selected that defines a default activation limit, this field overrides that default.

License Duration #

Number + Unit fields: How long the license remains valid after purchase

• Set the number and unit (days, months, years)
• Select “Lifetime” for licenses that never expire
• If a License Type defines a default duration, this field overrides it

Entitled Major Version (New in v2.0.0) #

Text field: The major version number this product entitles the customer to

When set, this value is stamped on every license created from purchases of this product. Your client software can read this field from the API and use it to control which updates the customer receives.

How it works:

• Set to a version number like “3” or “4” to indicate the major version
• Leave blank if you do not use version-based licensing
• At purchase time, the value is copied to the license record and does not change if you later update this field
• For variable products, variation-level settings override this product-level setting

Example: If you sell “Plugin v3” at $49 and “Plugin v4” at $79, set Entitled Major Version to “3” on the v3 variation and “4” on the v4 variation. Customers who purchase v3 get entitled_major_version: "3" on their license.
