Interpreting Download Patterns #
Understanding what download data tells you.
Normal Patterns #
| Pattern | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Spike after release | Expected – customers update in first 24-48 hours |
| Weekend dip | Normal – fewer business downloads on weekends |
| Steady baseline | Healthy – consistent daily downloads from ongoing sales |
Patterns to Investigate #
Multiple downloads, same file, same customer, same day #
Possible causes:
- Customer re-downloading after failed transfer
- Customer installing on multiple sites
Action: Check if within license activation limit
Downloads from unusual IP addresses #
Possible causes:
- Legitimate: Employee traveling, using VPN
- Suspicious: License sharing (unauthorized)
Action: Contact customer to verify
Many downloads, no activations #
Possible causes:
- Customer evaluating/testing
- Technical issues preventing activation
Action: Reach out to offer help
Sudden drop in downloads #
Possible causes:
- Issue with customer portal
- New version has problems (customers avoid it)
- Support contracts expired
Action: Investigate and fix issue
Security Red Flags #
- Same license downloading from multiple countries within minutes
- Abnormally high download count for single license
