In addition to tier-based limits, you can set a custom rate limit override on an individual API key. An override replaces the tier limit for that specific key.
When to Use Overrides #
- Grant higher limits to a trusted internal integration without changing its tier
- Apply stricter limits to a public-facing or third-party key
- Temporarily restrict a key during an incident without revoking it
Setting an Override #
- Navigate to DDLS > Developer > API Keys
- Create a new key or edit an existing one
- In the Rate Limit Override field, enter the custom limit values
- Save the key
The override is stored in the rate_limit_override JSON column on the API key record. When an override is present, it takes full precedence over the key’s assigned tier limit.
