What are Customer Assets? #
Customer assets are records that track items belonging to or managed on behalf of a customer. They include domains, SSL certificates, hosting accounts, and any custom item that has an expiration date or renewal cost worth tracking.
What DMSI Service Management Adds
DMSI-DDLS Core provides the client account framework. DMSI Service Management adds the asset tracking layer: a dedicated asset register per customer, configurable asset types, expiration monitoring, renewal cost recording, and automated reminder notifications sent before expiration dates. Customers can also view their own assets from the customer portal.
Asset Types #
DMSI Service Management supports four asset types out of the box:
| Type | Common Use Case |
|---|---|
| Domain | Domain name registrations with annual renewal dates |
| SSL | SSL/TLS certificates that expire on a fixed date |
| Hosting | Web hosting or cloud service subscriptions |
| Custom | Any other managed item with an expiration or renewal date |
Why Track Assets Here? #
Centralizing asset records in the same system as service contracts and requests provides several operational benefits:
- Staff can see which assets a customer has when handling a request
- Expiration reminders are sent automatically without manual calendar management
- Customers can self-serve their asset list from the portal
- The Alerts dashboard widget surfaces all upcoming expirations in one place
