Editing an Existing License #

Editing licenses is how you handle customer support requests and make adjustments.

When to Edit Licenses #

Common Tasks:

• Extend expiration due to customer request
• Increase activation limit for growing agency
• Suspend license due to chargeback or terms violation
• Reactivate suspended license after payment received
• Transfer license to different customer
• Add domain restrictions
• Change status

How to Access Edit Mode #

From License List:

OR:

• Hover over license row
• Click “Edit” in row actions

What Can and Cannot Change #

You CAN Change: #

• Customer (transfers license – be careful!)
• Activation Limit (increase or decrease)
• Expiration Date (extend or reduce)
• Status
• Domain Restrictions (if implemented)
• Internal Notes

You CANNOT Change: #

• License Key (immutable – security measure)
• License Type (read-only after creation – set at order time)
• Order ID (historical record)
• Purchase Date (historical)
• Created Date (audit trail)
• Variation (determined by the original order)

Key Differences from Add New #

1. License Key Field #

• Displays as read-only text
• Shows full key: DMSI-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
• No Generate Key button (key is permanent)

2. License Type Field #

• Displays as read-only after creation
• Shows the slug and name of the License Type applied at creation
• Cannot be changed; reflects the type that was in effect when the license was created

3. Customer Field #

• Can be changed (but triggers confirmation)
• Changing customer = transferring ownership
• Always verify authorization before transferring!

4. Activation Limit Changes #

Shows warning if you try to reduce below current usage.

Example: License has 3 sites activated, limit is 5.

• Increase to 10: Allowed, saves immediately
• Decrease to 2: Blocked with error

Error: “Cannot reduce limit below current usage (3 active). Deactivate sites first.”

Solution:

5. Status Changes #

Active to Suspended: Asks “Are you sure?”
Suspended to Active: Saves immediately (reactivation)
Any to Cancelled: Shows strong warning (permanent)

Cancellation Warning:

Cancel License?
This is a permanent action that cannot be undone.
All activations will stop working immediately
Customer will lose download access
License cannot be reactivated
Consider using "Suspended" instead for temporary holds

6. Additional Fields in Edit Mode #

• Domain Restrictions (if feature enabled)
• Internal Notes (your private admin notes)
• Order Information (view only)
• Activity Log (view only – shows history)

Save Options #

[Update License] – Save all changes and return to list

[Cancel] – Discard all changes and return to list
