Staff roles control what your internal team members can see and do in the DMSI DDLS admin panel.
Admin-Side Feature
Staff roles apply to your internal employees. These are not the same as customer team roles (Team Admin / Team Member).
How Roles Work #
Every staff member has exactly one role. That role maps to a set of permissions called capabilities. When a staff member tries to perform an action in DDLS (view a customer, delete a license, etc.), the system checks whether their current role grants that capability.
Types of Roles #
Built-in Roles #
Four roles are created automatically when the plugin installs. They cover the most common permission patterns and cannot be edited or deleted.
| Role | Slug | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Admin | dmsi_admin | Full access to all 13 capabilities |
| Manager | dmsi_manager | Manage (but not delete) customers, licenses, products |
| Support | dmsi_support | View and manage customer records; view licenses |
| View-Only | dmsi_view_only | Read-only access to customers, licenses, products, analytics |
Custom Roles #
You can create up to 50 custom roles with any combination of the 13 capabilities. Custom roles are useful when the built-in roles don’t match your team’s actual job functions.
Examples of custom roles you might create:
- “Billing Specialist” – access to billing and subscriptions, but not customer data
- “Senior Support” – all support permissions plus the ability to manage licenses
- “Auditor” – view-only access to everything including analytics and billing
Role Assignment #
Each staff member has one role. You assign (or change) it when adding or editing a team member. See Adding a Staff Member and Editing a Staff Member.
